The Open-Up Pouch is a structured zip pouch designed to open wide and stay open, making it easy to see and access everything inside. Unlike regular pouches that flop shut, this one stays upright and fully open while you use it. Perfect as a makeup bag, toiletry bag, travel pouch, or everyday organiser.
The pattern includes 3 sizes:
- Mini: 18 × 12 × 12 cm (7⅛ × 4¾ × 4¾ in)
- Medium: 22 × 13 × 13 cm (8¾ × 5⅛ × 5⅛ in)
- Large: 25 × 15 × 15 cm (9¾ × 6 × 6 in)
The interior is fully finished, with a lining and two pocket options: upright lipstick pockets, and an elasticated pocket to hold and separate smaller items. The exterior can be made plain or quilted. Quilting adds extra structure and a padded, finished look, but it is optional.
Works best with quilting cotton, cotton canvas, cotton twill, linen, lightweight denim, or corduroy. No serger needed, just a regular sewing machine.

This is the first pattern I have ever used and it was great! I really liked using the YouTube video to guide me, especially for the steps after the exterior and lining have been put together. I'm really pleased with the final product and plan to try the large version next. In this project I also learnt to use a zipper foot and use bias tape. I had so much fun making it!
It’s a wonderful PDF, great video. No issues with the binding like others have mentioned and I am still a beginner.
I really like this pouch pattern. The only problem I had is attaching the bias tape. I found this step very difficult.
The directions were easy to follow. having the video to follow as well was very helpful. My pouch came out very nicely, plan to make more! Would love a slightly larger one though, so will need to figure that out. Super happy though!

I was glad for a good strong sewing machine to finish up the bag! It turned out beautiful. I used thicker fabric and it holds its shape well, but next time I will use quilting fabric.

Love this pattern it’s very easy to print, put together and sew. Definitely make your bias tape wider than recommended as that is the most difficult part of this project. Otherwise I love it how my bag turned out!
I absolutely love the design of this makeup bag! It is unique to those I've seen in stores and has the perfect pockets to fit my products. the pattern doesn't require too many materials, and as a confident beginner, I found it very doable. I would say the only part that I struggled with (and doesn't look as nice as I wished it would) is the final step of bias tape. I already struggled with bias tape on previous projects, so this is not a knock on the quality of the pattern and instructions. The instructions include step by step images and I watched the YouTube video all the way through before beginning, so I would feel familiar with each step. I made the medium bag this time, but I look forward to making the other two sizes! Great value and thoughtfully prepared materials.

Beautiful pattern, good instruction on the you tube video which was great to be abe to see the construction.
The bag is so well constructed and fits all my sewing supplies. I made the large size to use for my sewing supplies for Fashion school. The pouches fits all my small things and my spools of thread.
Will definitely be making more for friends and family.
The written instructions were good and easy to follow.
Note: English is not my first language and I had no problems reading the instructions.

I've made two already! The youtube tutorial is great and easy to follow. My only qualm is that there is one detail on the completed bags that is no where in the pattern or tutorial, but it was very simple to add myself.

The explain are crystal clear, everything is well explained and my bag is really cute
First things first: the finished product is SOOO cute I’m obsessed and way better than other makeup bags I’ve seen, love that it fully opens and has multiple pockets. Feels sturdy and took me about 2 days to make incl. all the cutting, pressing, figuring out instructions, & sewing, & I would classify myself as “confident beginner”. Now, I will say that there were a few typos/errors in the pattern and sometimes it felt like small steps were being “assumed” (eg it says to cut two lines on the pattern but you actually cut four; I think there’s an error in the size chart; she doesn’t tell you how you’re supposed to do the notches ie cut or mark with chalk…it’s both) and I just bought my own bias tape to avoid sizing issues. Overall though, great for an indie pattern maker and love the end result!!! Only up from here :) !!
